Terms of Service

1. Agreement to Terms

By accessing or using Freedom Forge ("Service", "App", "Platform"), you agree to be bound by these Terms, our Privacy Policy, and all applicable laws and regulations. If you are using Freedom Forge on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization to these Terms.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to use Freedom Forge. By creating an account, you represent and warrant that:

• You are at least 18 years of age
• You have the legal capacity to enter into a binding contract
• You will provide accurate and complete information
• You will comply with all applicable laws

3. Account Registration

3.1 Creating Your Account

To use Freedom Forge, you must create an account by providing:

• A valid email address
• A secure password
• Optional: Name and profile information

3.2 Account Security

You are responsible for:

• Maintaining the confidentiality of your password
• All activities that occur under your account
• Notifying us immediately of any unauthorized access

Security Tip: Use a unique, strong password and enable two-factor authentication (when available).

3.3 One Account Per Person

You may only create one account per person. Creating multiple accounts to abuse free trials or promotional pricing is prohibited and may result in account termination.

4. Subscription Plans & Billing

4.1 Subscription Tiers

Freedom Forge offers three subscription tiers:

• Free: Basic features with manual entry (no bank syncing)
• Plus ($79/year or $7.99/month): Full features including bank syncing, debt snowball/avalanche, scenario testing
• Pro ($149/year or $14.99/month): Plus tier + retirement planning, 401k loan tracking, advanced reporting

4.2 Billing Cycle

• Monthly subscriptions: Billed on the same day each month (e.g., if you sign up on Jan 15, you'll be billed on the 15th of each month)
• Annual subscriptions: Billed once per year on your anniversary date
• Free tier: No billing (upgrade anytime)

4.3 Payment Processing

All payments are processed securely by Stripe. Freedom Forge does not store your credit card information. By subscribing, you authorize Stripe to charge your payment method on a recurring basis.

4.4 Price Changes

We may change subscription prices at any time. If we increase prices for existing subscribers:

• We will notify you at least 30 days in advance via email
• The new price will apply at your next renewal date
• You may cancel before the renewal date to avoid the new price

Lifetime Pricing: If you purchased a "lifetime" plan during a promotional period, your price is locked in forever (no increases).

4.5 Failed Payments

If a payment fails:

• We will attempt to charge your payment method up to 3 times over 7 days
• You will receive email notifications about the failed payment
• If payment fails after 3 attempts, your account will be downgraded to the Free tier
• Your data is not deleted - simply update your payment method to reactivate

5. Cancellation & Refunds

5.1 Cancellation Policy

You may cancel your subscription at any time from Settings → Subscription → Cancel. Upon cancellation:

• Your subscription remains active until the end of your current billing period
• You will not be charged again
• Your account automatically downgrades to the Free tier (data is not deleted)
• You can reactivate your subscription anytime

5.2 Refund Policy

After 30 days: Subscriptions are non-refundable. However, you can cancel anytime to avoid future charges.

Annual Subscriptions: If you cancel within 30 days of your annual renewal, you may request a prorated refund for the unused portion.

Violation of these Terms may result in:

• Immediate termination of your account
• No refund of subscription fees
• Legal action (if applicable)

7. Bank Account Connections (Plaid)

7.1 How Plaid Works

Freedom Forge uses Plaid to securely connect to your bank accounts. When you link a bank account:

• You authorize Plaid to access read-only transaction data
• Freedom Forge cannot move money, initiate transfers, or access your bank login credentials
• Plaid uses the same OAuth 2.0 security as your bank's official mobile app

7.2 Your Consent

By connecting your bank account, you:

• Consent to Freedom Forge accessing your transaction history via Plaid
• Authorize Plaid to retrieve account balances and transaction details
• Acknowledge that you have reviewed and accepted Plaid's privacy policy

7.3 Disconnecting Bank Accounts

You may disconnect your bank accounts at any time from Settings → Connected Accounts. This will:

• Stop new transactions from syncing
• Preserve your existing transaction history (not deleted)
• You can reconnect anytime

8. Data Accuracy & Financial Advice

8.1 We Are Not Financial Advisors

You should consult a licensed financial advisor, accountant, or attorney for professional advice tailored to your specific situation.

8.2 Accuracy of Data

While we strive for accuracy:

• Transaction data from Plaid may be delayed or incomplete
• Interest rate calculations are estimates (actual rates may vary)
• Debt payoff timelines assume consistent payments (unexpected expenses may affect results)
• You are responsible for verifying all information (check with your bank/lender for official balances)

8.3 No Guarantees

We do not guarantee that:

• Using Freedom Forge will eliminate your debt by a specific date
• Our calculations are error-free
• Following our debt strategies will improve your credit score
• The service will be uninterrupted or error-free

9. Intellectual Property

9.1 Freedom Forge Owns

All content, features, and functionality of Freedom Forge (including but not limited to software, text, graphics, logos, and algorithms) are owned by Freedom Forge and protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.

9.2 You Own Your Data

You retain ownership of all financial data you input into Freedom Forge. We claim no ownership rights to your personal information or transaction data.

9.3 Limited License

We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use Freedom Forge for personal, non-commercial purposes. This license terminates if you violate these Terms.

10. Third-Party Services

Freedom Forge integrates with third-party services:

• Plaid: Bank account connections
• Stripe: Payment processing
• Vercel: Application hosting
• Supabase: Database hosting

These third parties have their own terms of service and privacy policies. We are not responsible for their practices or service interruptions.

11. Limitation of Liability

In no event shall Freedom Forge's total liability exceed the amount you paid for your subscription in the 12 months preceding the claim.

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Freedom Forge from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including legal fees) arising from:

• Your violation of these Terms
• Your violation of any laws or third-party rights
• Your use of the service
• Any content you submit or upload

13. Termination

13.1 Termination by You

You may terminate your account at any time by:

• Canceling your subscription (Settings → Subscription → Cancel)
• Deleting your account (Settings → Account → Delete Account)

13.2 Termination by Freedom Forge

We may terminate or suspend your account immediately if:

• You violate these Terms
• You engage in fraudulent activity
• We are required to do so by law
• We discontinue the service (30 days notice will be provided)

13.3 Effect of Termination

Upon termination:

• Your access to Freedom Forge is immediately revoked
• Your data is retained for 30 days, then permanently deleted
• No refunds are provided for early termination (unless within 30-day guarantee)

14. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms periodically. If we make material changes:

• We will notify you via email at least 30 days before changes take effect
• We will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page
• Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance

If you don't agree to the changes, you may cancel your subscription before the effective date.

15. Governing Law & Dispute Resolution

15.1 Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, United States, without regard to conflict of law principles.

15.2 Dispute Resolution

If you have a dispute with Freedom Forge:

• Step 1: Contact contact@freedomforge.app to resolve informally
• Step 2: If unresolved, disputes will be settled through binding arbitration in Florida
• Class Action Waiver: You agree to resolve disputes individually, not as part of a class action

16. Miscellaneous

16.1 Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Freedom Forge.

16.2 Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will remain in full effect.

16.3 Waiver

Our failure to enforce any right or provision of these Terms does not constitute a waiver of that right or provision.

16.4 Assignment

You may not transfer or assign your rights under these Terms without our written consent. We may freely assign these Terms.
